The Green Homes Compliance Scheme - Ventilation
The Green Homes Compliance scheme aims to make it as easy as possible for installers to identify the correct ventilation solution. Airflow, as a member of BEAMA, have contributed to this initiative and have a wide variety of compliant solutions.
The Green Homes Grant scheme is a Government backed Initiative providing vouchers to help fund energy efficiency measures in both primary and secondary categories. This includes double glazing, insulation, and draught-proofing. These measures aim to help homes reduces the amount of heat escaping. However, they will also reduce the amount of air that is able to naturally leak out of the house. Many existing homes rely on this air leakage to provide constant air changes which remove pollutants and moisture in the indoor air, which is known to cause health issues. Any installer working under the Green Homes Grant scheme needs to be a registered and accredited under the Gov scheme. They then have the legal requirement to ensure that the indoor air quality of a home is not made worse by adding insulation, double glazing or draught-proofing measures. For any building work on existing homes the Building Regulations require that “the rest of the building should not be made less satisfactory in relation to the requirements (including ventilation) than before the work was carried out.”
Government guidance on the scheme makes it clear that subsidy received by consumers in the form of the Green Homes Grant voucher can be used to cover “reasonable enabling work to support the retrofit.” A specific item listed in this guidance is repairing and improving controlled ventilation. This means that the provision of ventilation alongside insulation can form part of the grant.
Airflow, as a member of BEAMA, have contributed to the 'Green Homes Compliance Scheme' which outlines the suitable ventilation products that meet and exceed building standard - it covers bathrooms, toilets, un-suites and kitchens. The scheme also differentiates the application type, including through the wall, inline and ceiling applications. The aim of this compliance scheme is to make it as easy as possible for installers to identify products that will delivery effective ventilation. It is also worth noting that the most important thing is a fans installed performance and its ability to overcome any resistance the fan faces when installed. The Ventilation Compliance guide can be found here.
